The Jak and Daxter Collection™ features all three best-selling PlayStation®2 classic hits: Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy®, Jak II™ and Jak 3™ fully remastered in high definition, stereoscopic 3D and with Trophy support. Dec 7, 2018 - Limited Run Games, Naughty Dog, and Sony have announced that they are bringing Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy to the PS4 in disc.
The Jak and Daxter PlayStation 2 games are being reprinted on disc — as PlayStation 4 releases — by boutique publisher Limited Run Games. The first, goes on sale today in extremely limited quantities.
The publisher’s re-release of Naughty Dog’s Jak and Daxter games will be physical discs that play those PS2 games on a PS4. Limited Run Games opened sales earlier today. Only 7,500 copies will be printed: 2,500 and 5,000. It’s an unusual move, but one clearly aimed at collectors and hardcore Jak and Daxter fans, based on the collector’s edition contents. From the: Each game’s Collector’s Edition will include a special item that ties into the game.
Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy will include a decorative metal Orb, a USB drive shaped like a memory card, trading card pack, exclusive poster, and a CD soundtrack. This will mark the very first time the soundtracks will be released! Additionally, each Collector’s Edition will include a piece of history from the series. We’ve secured never-before-seen historical documents to include in each of the Collector’s Editions. For each game, we will be producing a hardback foil-stamped book containing images from Naughty Dog’s original Jak and Daxter production binders. These binders dive into the world and characters in a depth fans have never seen before and offer a glimpse into how the games were formed.
Limited Run Games Limited Run says it will release the other games in the series —, and Jak X: Combat Racing — by June 2019. And for fans who purchase all four games, Limited Run, Sony and Naughty Dog will release a “mock case” for Jak 4, a game that does not exist but was in development at one point. That Jak 4 “release” will include a nice, exclusive bonus: The mock case will include a code redeemable for a PlayStation 4 system theme based on Naughty Dog’s original late-00’s Jak 4 concept art. There will be no other way to acquire this item outside of this, so make sure to order all four of our releases if you want to own it. Fans who purchase all four games will be mailed the Jak 4 mock case after June 30, 2019.
Sony released the four Jak and Daxter games for PS4 as downloadable PS2 Classics. Those re-releases up-rezzed the original games to 1080p, and included PS4 features such as PlayStation Network trophies, Share Play and Remote Play.
Naughty Dog is now synonymous with Triple-A titles, but the studio was known for churning out some incredible games long before it reached the level of acclaim it enjoys today. Back during the PS2 era, Naughty Dog was bought by Sony, and the first collaborative project between the companies was a quirky action-platformer named Jak and Daxter. The series quickly stole the hearts of a generation with its inventive gameplay, unique brand of humor, and charming cast of characters. Luckily, for longtime fans and platforming aficionados, the entire series is being released on PlayStation 4. The games will be getting some polish through, what Sony is calling, 1080p up-rendering — which is a fancy way of saying it will look sharper. Included in the release are Jak and Daxter, Jak II, and Jak 3. Also along for the ride is Jak X: Combat Racing, a spin-off vehicular combat game based on the driving mechanics found in Jak 3.
This will mark the first time the title has been made available outside its original PS2 release. There will also be a few more additional features packaged in with the games, such as Trophy support, Shareplay, Remote Play, and Activity Feeds. There are no prices listed as of yet, but each game will be available to purchase and download from the PS Store later this year. The PlayStation 2 is generally regarded as a great period for gaming, with Jak and Daxter among some of its most memorable titles.
We absolutely had to include it in our, where it was joined by powerhouse titles such as God of War, Final Fantasy X, and Shadow of the Colossus — all of which have had HD remasters of their own. The Jak and Daxter series saw an HD collection release once before on the PS3, though it only included the three base games. With so much attention on the popular series, many fans wonder why Naughty Dog doesn’t just opt for a proper sequel. Unfortunately, the studio has firmly stated it has at this time. Not that anyone is complaining, considering the projects the studio currently has on its plate. After a long period of speculation, it was finally announced that The Last of Us has a direct sequel in development. Uncharted is getting a pretty hefty DLC that will be seen, for the first time, through the eyes of characters who aren’t Nathan Drake, and it will provide an action-packed close the series and the events. Additionally, Naughty Dog’s original success, Crash Bandicoot, is for its series of games with the N-Sane Trilogy, which will release this summer, June 2017.
Jak and Daxter PS2 Classics will release for PlayStation 4 some time later this year.
